Lhasa, Tibet

The St. Regis in Lhasa was a small little paradise on the top of the world. There was plenty of food to be had during the buffet meals in the Social restaurant. The gift shop was full of beautiful treasures and I had to purchase a fantastic silver with amber ring.

Tibet is a sacred experience, the Jokhang Temple, Potala Palace, the monasteries, the nunnery and Borkhar market was one visual blessing after another. Although the Dali Lama was chased out many years ago his spirit remains. In my opinion, it was angering to see such an overwhelming Chinese military presence everywhere, but the native Tibetans were a pleasure.

My husband and I decided to have a marriage blessing at the Nunnery. It was an experience I was happy to share with all the fellow travelers. We dressed in traditional attire and partook in the traditions of the Tibetan wedding blessing ceremony, including yak butter tea.

All in all, if you ever have the chance, climb the steps of the palace and enjoy being at the top of the world!
